Our students, as well as all Christians, are called to Diverge, to be different, from the pattern of this world or the standard set by today’s culture. It is the goal of this ministry help students from 6th – 12th grades engage this culture with the courage to deny themselves with the compassion of Jesus Christ to serving others. Seeing students get to know Christ on a personally and walking with them to own their faith is the passion of what we do.
“let us draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.” Hebrews 10:22-25
Youth Sunday School meets Sunday mornings at 9:20. This is a time of Bible Study where we open up the truths of Scripture as they apply directly to the student’s lives. We gauge the needs of our students and teach accordingly through groups of either age or gender based.
Ignite meets Wednesday nights from 5:30 to 7:00 for a time of youth worship. Worship style is contemporary followed by relevant messages meant to “Ignite” a flame within each student and challenging them to diverge.
The Walk meets Sunday nights from 5:00-5:45 for Middle School and 6:10-7:00 for High School. Students will put into play what they learn through other ministry times. There will be less teaching and more students working through their faith by sharing and walking together with one another.
Tuesday, Feb. 20
7:00 P.M. at Laurens Middle School
The SOAR dunk team from Liberty University will be coming to share their acrobat dunks. Some of you may remember that we hosted them a couple of years ago and we had a great crowd. We will also have the Capstone Worship Band and are excited to have Jason McLeod as our special speaker. Jason is the new youth minister at Chestnut Ridge and was one of the actors from “Facing the Giants” and “Fireproof.” It will be a great night of dunks, music, giveaways, and a Biblical challenge from the Scripture.

Have you ever wanted to go Old School?
You remember, back in the day when some of the biggest questions you had were:
- What should I play during recess — dodgeball or kickball?
- What should I drink with my brown-bag lunch — plain milk or chocolate?
- What dessert that will never go bad tastes best — a Twinkie or a Ding Dong?
Regardless of what time period was Old School for us, we look back on those times and smile at how simple and silly it all seems. Sometimes we wish we could go back, at least for a little while. That’s because we remember all of the fun but not much of the education. That’s often the way that we look at the Old Testament. A lot of us had these Old School stories served to us in a Sunday School-style setting while we were munching on stale pretzels and sipping on watered-down Kool-Aid. It may be easy for us to forget the cheesy flannel-graph presentations we saw then, but it’s even harder for us to remember the timeless lessons they held. So in this series we are going Old School.
Accompanied by a cast of characters from the Old Testament and their encounters with God, we will find answers to today’s questions in yesterday’s stories.
