John 13:31-35

“By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another” (v. 35).

Before you get out of bed, say it to yourself:
Choose love.
Say it until you choose love
instead of those other choices that shrink the soul
and make you smaller.
Choose love.
Say it through the morning
and watch it appear.
Welcome surprises you could not plan.
Receive undeserved grace with your grateful heart.
Choose love when you start to believe that you cannot do
what is yours to do.
Choose love when you struggle,
and know the depth of disappointment,
and have no words to offer.
Choose what love points to:
hope growing,
truth emerging,
courage rising,
beauty made visible.
Always choose love.

What makes always choosing love a challenge for you?

Loving God, help me see my opportunities to choose love, and then join you there. Amen.
